An accomplished African-American author of a series of childrens books is a boardmember of a children’s theatre company. That is natural. Then, she is asked to write a children’s play. A logical choice. The children’s play she writes is bilingual. Well, that is interesting! The author is Anna Pearl Barrett, the company is Express Children’s Theatre, and the play is The Adventures of Neecie & Joselito.
Barrett’s spirit and personality inform her youthful creations and offer children a unique look at American life in the country. As a teacher of Spanish for many years, Barrett fuses her gift for writing with the formalization of theatre and a very neat children’s play about the challenges of embracing a different culture was born.
Hear her story and enjoy her vibrant personality!
